We’re just back from Tanzania, where we had great fun showcasing our latest ankara styles in our photoshoot. Talented local photographers called Dworks Studios based in Dar es Salaam carried out the photoshoot in our home community.
We were really pleased with the way the images turned out and are excited to share our look book of the different African print clothing styles and bold and vibrant African print fabric with you.
Our first shot (pictured above) was taken outside a derelict container, which was once used by the local government, hence the painted colours of the ruling party on the outside.
Priya is modelling one of our new pencil skirt prints, which is very stylish and flattering to wear. This style of skirt is very practical as it can easily be dressed up with heels and a shirt/blouse tucked inside or worn casually with flats such as our handmade, leather beaded sandals.
Patrick is wearing one of our new men’s short sleeve shirt prints with black jeans and sandals. Our African menswear shirts look great worn with jeans of any colour particularly dark blue.
The next look modelled by Priya is our unisex African print trousers, which is probably one of our boldest ankara prints in the collection. For some reason this print reminds us of the pattern on a Giraffe and the colours look similar too. These lounge pants are really comfortable and easy to wear for everyday use.
Our brand new maxi skirt design (below) modelled by Ziada is a real statement piece! It comes in two gorgeous colourways and the bold print will help you stand out in a crowd! As the skirt is elasticated you can wear it as high or as low as you like on your waist, which will determine the length of the skirt.
Our popular bright yellow African print flare skirt is a great way of adding some colour to your wardrobe. Due to the elasticated waistband it accentuates your waist and is fully lined inside. Accessorise with bold statement jewellery such as our African beaded necklaces and wear with flats or heels.
Next up is our funky men’s green/floral African print long sleeve shirt modelled by Patrick next to one of our local bajajes (tuk-tuks), which we used for the photoshoot. These shirts are great for formal and casual occasions such as parties, festivals, and holidays as the fabric is 100% cotton so will keep you nice and cool in hot climates. Simply roll up the sleeves for a more casual look!
Here the models are wearing our red African print skirt and African print top at a ‘genge’ (fruit and vegetable stall). Next to the bananas (which they like to cook with in Tanzanian cuisine) is a ‘Chai Bora’ sign, a Tanzanian tea company. The word ‘Chai’ means tea in Swahili.
Big thanks to Dworks Studios and all our models – Patrick, Priya and Ziada – and the backstage crew who were amazing and so helpful during the shoot.
