On Saturday 3rd August 2019, Kitenge proudly took part in Bristol’s first ever AfroFest held at The Trinity Centre! Our colourful African print clothing stall was positioned directly opposite the main stage.
We really enjoyed watching and listening to all the fantastic live music, Djs, dance and spoken word performances. The event was a great success and celebration of African culture with lots of families and young people taking part.

The event was organised by Afro Beat Fridays and DJ Neyo who also DJ’d at the Fabric Africa Fashion Show in October 2018 at the impressive Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.
We were all excited to see Afro B perform who was the main headliner at the event and his hit single Joanna went down very well with the crowd! There was also a fantastic Congolese band called African Ngwasuma who got the party started!
We were very fortunate to be joined by two great volunteers called Katya and Casper who are great supporters and fans of Kitenge. Here they are wearing matching ‘his and hers’ unisex African print trousers.
This fantastic brown/yellow trouser print was so popular that it sold out at the event but we now have more stock available in our African boutique online for men and women!

We were also very happy and excited to team up again with the excellent models and African print fabric fashion show creator, Christelle Pellecuer, who we have collaborated with in the past at several African themed events in Bristol including the Mavazi ya Kanga fashion show within the Lubaina Himid Exhibition, a Zanzibarian artist, at the Spike Island venue.

The fun-filled event also included several solo performances by local musician Pariah who wore our popular African print trousers on stage just before the fashion show began, which supported mainly local designers. Pariah did a great job of opening the African fashion exhibition. Watch part of her performance below!

It was a pleasure to be invited to take part in the African fashion exhibition. We chose seven unique looks from our men’s and women’s ready to wear collection that is currently on sale. The main hall was packed with limited standing space at the back of the former church building.

Our fun and fabulous, fit ‘n’ flare ankara dresses are incredibly versatile as they can easily be dressed down with casual sandals and leggings or dressed up with heels, tights (if needed) and some bold statement African beaded jewellery. This style of dress best suits pear body shapes (most common) as it covers the hips and hourglass body shapes as it accentuates the waist.

Did you know that Kitenge also provides an online made to measure trousers and shorts service for both men and women?
Simply choose which ankara fabric you like best, then decide if you would like a drawstring tie and/or side pockets and measure a pair of trousers or shorts that fit you well at home using our simple ‘how to measure guide‘.
All you need is a fabric tape measure and you’ll soon receive perfect fitting trousers or shorts that will last for years direct from our tailors workshop in Tanzania!

Our African print pencil dress is suitable for all body shapes. It is a very flattering style as it has a straight skirt but also accentuates the waist and shows off your curvaceous hips! Just like our fit ‘n’ flare dress it is extremely versatile and can be worn from day time in the office to evening social events.

All our gorgeous maxi African print skirts have now sold out but we do currently have a fit ‘n’ flare skirt in the same print design. The only difference is that the fit ‘n’ flare skirt is shorter (knee length instead of ankle length).
