Kitenge’s authentic Yellow Pineapple African Print Fabric produced in Nigeria, West Africa
Ankara fabrics are hugely popular on the African continent as well as many countries worldwide due to their bright, cheerful colours and bold, fun patterns.
African print fabrics are usually more affordable compared to the luxurious handcrafted traditional African textiles, as they are produced quickly, in bulk, by machines in large-scale factories.
This made the fabrics more widely available and accessible to people, which has helped to increase their popularity. With many tailors available in African countries, people can easily experiment and have fun designing a unique outfit of their choice using fabrics purchased from the market.
The traditional African textiles are often purchased for special occasions such as wedding ceremonies where they are worn or given as gifts. In Ghana, Kente fabric was traditionally worn only by royals of the Ashanti Kingdom but today the cloth can be purchased and worn by anyone.

Kitenge fabrics are extremely versatile as they’re not only great for clothing but can also be used to make unique home décor items such as: cushion covers, curtains, lampshades, table cloths, napkins, upholstery and bedsheets. What’s great is that the print is visible on both the front and back sides.
“I love the colours of the beautiful fabric and look forward to making some beautiful cushion covers!”
